When does the Ocean Spirit tour depart and return?

Boarding commences at 8:00am for an 8:30am departure from the Reef Fleet Terminal. We arrive back in Cairns at approximately 5:00pm.

Do you offer hotel transfers?

Yes, we offer coach transfers from most hotels in Cairns City and the Northern Beaches. We do not offer transfers from Port Douglas. Pick-up times will be confirmed upon booking.

What is the cancellation policy?

We have a penalty-free cancellation policy. You can cancel or change your travel date without fees if you notify us by 12:00pm (midday) on the day prior to travel.

Is lunch included and do you cater for vegetarians?

Yes, a hot and cold buffet lunch is included in your ticket. We cater for vegetarians with a selection of salads and hot dishes. Please advise us of any specific dietary requirements when booking.

Is there parking at the Reef Fleet Terminal?

Yes, undercover parking is available at the Pier Shopping Complex / Shangri-La Hotel, located adjacent to the Reef Fleet Terminal. Hourly and daily rates apply.

Do you still go out if it is raining?

Accepted Answer

Yes, we do! You are going to get wet swimming anyway. Fish activity is often better on overcast days. However, if the weather is deemed unsafe by the skipper, the trip will be cancelled and you will be offered a full refund or date change.

Will I get sea sick on the way to Michaelmas Cay?

Accepted Answer

Ocean Spirit is a sailing catamaran, which is generally more stable than smaller vessels. However, if you are prone to motion sickness, we sell preventative medication onboard. We recommend taking it 30 minutes before departure.

Can I smoke on the boat?

Smoking is strictly prohibited on the vessel and on Michaelmas Cay, which is a protected National Park.

What should I bring to the reef?

Accepted Answer

Bring a towel, swimwear, hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen (reef-safe preferred). We provide Lycra stinger suits and snorkel gear. Don't forget a credit card for onboard purchases.

Is Michaelmas Cay suitable for non-swimmers or children?

Accepted Answer

Yes, Michaelmas Cay is perfect for families and non-swimmers. The beach slopes gently into the water, allowing you to wade in safely. We also offer a semi-submersible tour for a dry reef viewing experience.

Are there sharks at Michaelmas Cay?

Accepted Answer

It is common to see small, harmless Blacktip Reef Sharks or White Tip Reef Sharks. They are generally shy and not aggressive toward snorkelers.

What is the water temperature?

Water temperature ranges from 22°C (71°F) in winter (July-August) to 29°C (84°F) in summer (December-February).
